Firestarters are the first pieces of a new body of work drawing on mineral spirits and phantasms, and the thermal transformations of the kiln, the furnace and AI. Designed to be wall mounted, the piece comes with brass pins for hanging.

About the Artist
Melanie Jackson (UK) is an artist and educator who works with modes of nonfiction storytelling through assemblages of sculpture, writing and moving image. Her work has a focus on bio-technologies, at shifting scales from the nanoscale to the planetary. There is a concern with abstractions and circulatory systems. Ur-formations. Polyphony. Exclusions. Intimacies. The gallery is used to stage different tactics of representation: mimicry, documentary, myth fabrication, science, performance, humour, animation, political commentary, music, installation, craft and the cultivation of aesthetic delight
She is founder of @thepoorhousereadingrooms. Recent solo exhibitions include Spekyng Rybawdy at Aspex Gallery, Hot Flash at Exeter Phoenix, Block336, and Deeper in the Pyramid, Banner Repeater, London Grand Union, Birmingham and Primary, Nottingham, with books of the same name as part of an ongoing writing collaboration with writer Esther Leslie, recently recommissioned as a new version by Wellcome in 2023. Other solo shows include Matt's Gallery, Flat Time House, John Hansard Gallery, the Drawing Room, Chapter Arts Centre as well as group shows nationally and internationally including eva 2020/1, Ireland’s biennale. She has work in the Government and Tate collections.
