This series of small reduction-fired ceramic sculptures draws on memories from a camp on the Somerset–Wiltshire border, a landscape marked by ancient earthworks and the meeting of leylines. There, atop a hill under stars and moon was held a fire-dance. we danced in release to honour our ancestors and the elements; bodies spinning, leaping, dissolving into a primal, communal rhythm.

These sculptures echo that moment. Each figure holds a fragment of the whirling silhouettes cast against the night, carrying with it the sense of togetherness felt between people, earth, and flame. The glazes contain ash gathered from the fire itself, folding the physical remnants of the ritual into the work and preserving the energy and intentions at its core.

This body of work marks the beginning of a new direction in my practice—an exploration of ritual, both ancient and contemporary and its place in our daily lives.

About the Artist

Jake Fisk is a London-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice is grounded in process and the exploration of emotional and sensory experiences. Working primarily with clays, stone, and pigment, Fisk uses materiality as a language to explore personal memory, relationship to the body and symbolism. His pieces shift between sculpture and drawing, engaging with the spaces they occupy and inviting the viewer into an intimate interaction with texture, form, and surface. His works are reactive, evolving through a continuous dialogue of material, imagery and process reflecting upon both a physical and emotional experience of a shared history and our current time.
