A Stool is a study in the process of hydroforming.
Two sheets of metal are welded together and then inflated with the use of pressurised air or water.
The design is the result of a series of inflated tests with the aim to keep the process and aesthetic as organic as possible. It accentuates round curves in those areas of highest volumetric expansion. She used a simple right angle shape, an ‘a’ shaped leg and a hole handle, which adds to the playfulness of this design.
The beauty of this process rests on the fact that you have absolutely no control upon the outcome of any desired shape, making every piece of design unique and different to each other.

About the Artist
Jaclyn is a designer and maker based in London. Her background in set design informs her creative work as a designer. Colour and texture play an important role in developing every project. With a particular interest in the use of seating, Jaclyn looks at chairs not only as a functional object but rather as a study of body, shape and language.
Her work incorporates unconventional design techniques that stretch far from traditional craftsmanship. Exploring new techniques and material driven processes such as metal forming and non-traditional upholstery, she builds on similar profiles and repetitive patterns in the aim of creating something timeless.
Jaclyn’s work has been published in Elle Decor, AD Italia, Wallpaper, Dezeen, Sight Unseen, Modern House, Vogue, House & Garden, Financial Times, and many more. Represented by Max Radford Gallery and Galerie Philia, she works alongside private commissions for residential projects, retail stores, and galleries. Her work has been exhibited at The Design Museum and The Aram Store, and she recently collaborated with the British manufacturer Ercol and curator Max Radford for the London Design Festival.
