This paper-based crayon work is dominated by a face that resembles neither human nor animal. The longing expressed in the eyes spreads through the paper to the viewers. In Chinese folklore, a domestic pig that looks upward at you is said to be preparing to eat you.

About the Artist
Guonv Guo was born in Yibin, Sichuan Province, in 2001. She is currently a master's student in the Oil Painting Department of Chengdu Fine Arts Institute and lives and creates in Chengdu. She focuses on the visualisation translation of private emotions, using repetitive brushstrokes as the language carrier of psychological defence mechanisms. By establishing a layered trace system on the canvas, she transforms the individual experience of traumatic memories into universal visual archives, attempting to explore the possibility of self-repair and mental reconstruction through the ritualistic repetition of the act of painting.
