About the Artist

Camille Biddell makes sculptural pottery rooted in traditional ceramic processes that are reimagined playfully, respectfully acknowledging their origins whilst questioning ideas of functionality and ritual. Themes of heritage and place underpin her explorations in clay.

She enjoys the freedom of hand-building which lends itself to complex surfaces and forms. Her pieces are assembled using found textures and patterns which she translates into vessels using moulds and layers of slip.

Camille is based at Glasgow Ceramics Studio and studied at Edinburgh College of Art and Clay College Stoke. She was an Associate artist at Open School East in 2020-21. She advocates using clay as a catalyst for conversation and collaboration and has taught workshops across the UK, including Clay College, Middleport Pottery, 7 Spot Pottery, Airspace Gallery, the Portland Inn Project and Level Derbyshire.
